What is a Dive Watch?
Have you heard of a Dive watch but wondered what that means? We’ve put together a quick FAQ / guide to help you learn more and decide if a Dive watch is right for you.
What is a Dive watch?
A Dive watch is a wristwatch specifically made to work under water. If you’re a regular swimmer or diver, you need a watch that is waterproof, can withstand the additional pressure that comes with diving, and is luminous to help you see the time even in dark places.
Key characteristics of a Dive Watch:
Waterproof
The clue is in the name, if a Dive watch isn’t waterproof then it is not doing its job very well. Dive watches can range in water resistance rating but usually start at 50 metres but many models will exceed this. Our Pacific Wave collection offers 200m water resistance; far more than the average diver would ever need.
Luminous Dials & Hands
When you’re diving, it can get pretty dark. A lot of Dive watches have luminous hands and markers that glow in the dark to help you tell the time easily and quickly in dark or cloudy water.
Rotating Bezel
A rotating bezel is a ring around the dial of the watch that moves in one direction only. This feature is usually used to track elapsed time and Divers use it for monitoring their oxygen supply or how long they’ve been underwater.
Reliable & Tough
Sekonda Dive watches are built to last with reliable and durable materials, meaning that they can withstand the bumps and knocks that come with diving. Stainless Steel is a commonly used material in Dive watches due to its strength; however, this can make these watches larger and heavier than other types. So, if you prefer lightweight, slim watches, a Dive watch might not be the best choice for you for day to day wear.
Is a Dive watch right for you?
Dive watches are not exclusively for Divers. They are commonly worn as everyday watches and most will never see water beyond the bath or shower. But, if you love outdoor activities and sports like swimming, hiking or camping, the features and robustness of a Dive watch make it the ideal companion.

Dive watches are resilient, waterproof watches designed for underwater use, but also great for land-based adventures. Its features and distinctive style make it appealing to a wide range of people, not just divers. So, whether you’re an adventurer at heart, a watch collector, or someone who appreciates uniquely styled watches, a Dive watch could be a perfect addition to your wrist.
